The people of Develish have survived the worst of the Black Death. Saved from desperation and hopelessness by Lady Anne's leadership, and from starvation by Thaddeus Thurkell's bravery, they must now face a world decimated by the disease. As the atmosphere becomes more and more claustrophobic,Thaddeus must set out yet again into the unknown, to discover just what remains of England in the aftermath of the terrible pestilence.
