HARDCOVER SPECIAL EDITION: This fully annotated, coloured and illustrated edition of The Pine of Formentor by Miquel Costa i Llobera features a new translation of the text, an introduction to the historical context of the work and its author, as well as annotations and illustrations of relevant places in Mallorca, Spain. The original versions in Catalan and Spanish are included in an annex.
All in all, The Pine of Formentor, first published in 1885, remains one of Mallorca's most inspiring literary works. The pine tree, emblematic of the Mediterranean, embodies the concept of an ideal existence here. It also serves as an ascetic symbol for the challenges we face in life, echoing lessons of perseverance and strength.
Although recognized as a prominent poet in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, Costa i Llobera's works have mostly remained unknown outside of his homeland. Hence the need for a multilingual, annotated edition in English, especially in light of the centenary of the poet's death.
